Poems & Quotes

These poems and quotes have brought me a great deal of comfort since losing my beautiful baby

"An Angel opened the book of life to record a baby's birth; and whispered as she closed the book; too beautiful for earth."

"Even the smallest of feet have the power to leave everlasting footprints upon this world"
Lisa Clarke

"Parents hold their children's hands a while and their hearts forever" (Proverb)

An Eternal Memory of  a Little Angel

Today it would be wonderful to see you play or smile
but heaven lent you to this world for just a little while.
And in that short but precious time you brought along much love
and all that love is with you now in Heaven up above.
Your leaving caused so many tears and such a lot of pain
but God needed one more Angel, so he took you back again.

A Child Loaned

"I'll lend you for a little time
A child of Mine", He said,
"For you to love the while he lives,
And mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years
Or twenty-two or three,
But will you, until I call him back,
Take care of him for Me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his stay be brief,
You'll have his lovely memories
As solace for your grief.

I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return
But there are lessons taught down there
I want this child to learn.
I've looked this wide world over
In My search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes,
I have selected you;
Now will you give him all your love,
Not think the labour vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to call
And take him back again?"

I fancied that I heard them say,
"Dear Lord, Thy will be done,
For all the joy Thy Child shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known,
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him
Much sooner than we planned,
We'll brace the bitter grief that comes
And try to understand".

Edgar A. Guest

Time has taken me from you,
Although not very far.
I'll be watching through the sunshine
And through the brightest star.

I'll be watching all of you,
From the heavens up above
So take good care of each other
And carry all my love.

If you're ever wondering
If I'm there, here's where you can start.
Take a look inside yourself
Deep within your heart.

I'll always be your baby,
Your child, your best friend.
So anytime you need me,
Close your eyes I'm back again.

The world may never notice
If a snowdrop doesn't bloom,
Or even pause to wonder
If the petals fall too soon.

But every life that ever forms,
Or ever comes to be,
Touches the world in some small way
For all eternity.

The little one we longed for
Was swiftly here and gone.
But the love that was then planted
Is a light that still shines on.

And though our arms are empty,
Our hearts know what to do.
Every beating of our hearts
Says that we love you.

In a baby castle just beyond my eye
My baby plays with angel toys that money cannot buy
Who am I to wish him back into this world of strife?
No, play on my baby, you have eternal life.
I'll hear his tiny footsteps come running to my side.
His little hands caress me so tenderly and sweet.
I'll breathe a prayer and close my eyes
And embrace him in my sleep.
Now I have a treasure that I rate above all other;
I have known true glory, I am still his Mother.

A Loan

The Lord looked down to Earth one day, and saw a couple there.
He said "Now those two people make a lovely pair.
I have some spirits here with me that need a home on earth.
I think that I shall bless these folks with a precious spirits birth.

This baby, though, is just a loan, these are the terms my dears,
He may live there just sixty days or he may live for sixty years.
I hope you'll treat my spirit kindly while he's down on earth with you.
For when he comes back here to me, he has a special job to do.

Silent Child
by Kelly Lancor

My silent child
Our precious baby,
Close to my heart
I'll keep you with me.
An important job
God has for you,
There is love to give,
And work to do.

He needs an angel
Strong but small,
To shine light on many
And give love to all.
Before you go
I give you this,
Half my heart
And one last kiss.

We'll miss you dearly
That we know,
But by God you were chosen,
So to heaven, you must go.

In Memory of a Special Son

It's sometimes hard to know
Why some things happen as they do
For so much joy and happiness
Was centered around you

It seems so hard to comprehend
That you're no longer here
But all the happy memories
Will help to keep you near

You're thought about with pride, Son
With each mention of your name
Death cannot change a single thing
The love will still remain

by Frank Brown

Sometimes, when the sun goes down,
It seems it will never rise again...but it will
Sometimes, when you feel alone,
It seems your heart will break in two....but it won't.
And sometimes, it's hardly worth carrying on....
But it is.
For sometimes, when the sun goes down,
It seems it will never rise again,
But it does.

Memories of our Little One at Christmas

Does Heaven have a Christmas tree
for the little girls and boys
too far away for Santa's sleigh
to reach with treats and toys?

A tree that's hung with moonbeams, stars
and real, shining angel hair
for the precious little children
who all live in Heaven's care?

And are you filled with wonder
at its branches, all aglow
with the tears of those who miss you
on this earth, far down below?

For we hope and pray you're playing
with the angels, having fun
but please don't forget, we love you
- Happy Christmas, Little One -

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
for children grown up as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs, dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby, and babies don't keep.

In Memory of a Little Angel

At night when we look to the skies
And see a twinkling star
That sparkles brighter than the rest
We know that's where you are

Because you're in a special place
That's not so far away
A place of peace and endless love
Where Angels dance and play

Little Angel, you meant everything
But heaven made you free
To dance with joy among the clouds
For all eternity
